Membership in the National Honor Society (NHS) is one of the highest honors that can be awarded to a student. It brings to the attention of parents, teachers, peers, and the community the accomplishments of students who possess outstanding scholarship, service, leadership, and character. Membership is an honor conveyed upon students; it is not a right earned. To be eligible for membership in this group, a student must be a sophomore or junior who has been in attendance at Lakes Community High School the equivalent of at least one semester. Qualified students receive a letter of invitation based on their cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher. Interested students must then submit the required forms and essay for review prior to joing.
About the Sponsors:
Mrs. Gusler has been teaching math at Lakes for three years. She has a lot of experience overseeing clubs and activities at the collegiate level and is excited to utilize those skills for the first time as an adviser for the National Honor Society. Among many of the reasons that shaped her decision to oversee NHS was that she enjoys creating opportunities to help the larger community and providing opportunities for students get recognized for their achievements.
Mrs. Baur is in her third year at Lakes where she teaches Biology and AP Biology. Before coming to Lakes, Mrs. Baur taught for three years at Burlington High School in Burlington, Massachusetts where she was a co-advisor for National Honor Society. She is very excited to bring her experience to the Lakes chapter of NHS and to work with Mrs. Gusler and the students on some new school programs and service projects.
